Types of Allergy Tests

Patch test (Ontario)

This method of testing is used to detect delayed contact allergies (AKA skin allergy) to substances such as metals, hair dyes, cosmetics, fragrances, etc. We test for 80 of the most common allergens in North American products.

The results can take 96 hours to develop, hence this is known as delayed allergy.

This requires 3 in-office visits in 1 week:

- Monday (to place the patches on the back) - 15 minute visit

- Wednesday (removal of patches) - 15 minute visit

- Friday (final reading) - variable

On Friday, you will be provided with your results and a

Safe-Product list.

Location

Skin prick test

This type of testing is used to diagnose immediate environmental and food allergies. The results are obtained in 15 minutes after doing the test.

*Must stop antihistamines at least 4-5 days before the test.

**Our allergy clinic uses the allergy approved testing device called duotip for each individual allergen tested. We do not use lancets and we never wipe down the allergy skin test device between allergens. Once the device is used, it is discarded. This ensures there is no antigen carry-over and thus your results are accurate.
